Congratulations to the MCHS Concert Bands, A Superior Day at SCSBOA!

posted in: Accolades

Performing challenging sets of music before audiences of their peers and professional adjudicatiors, the Mira Costa Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony each earned the highest possible rating of Unanimous Superior (where each of the three judges awards the group the top rating of Superior) for their prepared performances on stage in the Southern California Band and Orchestra Association Festival at Santiago High School!

After performing on stage, each group traveled to the Sightreading Room where they had the opportunity to play a piece they had never seen before after studying it for 4 minutes.  This is also an adjudicated performance and each of the ensembles also earned Superior ratings for their performances of the sightread pieces!

This incredible result is a testament to all the hard work, focus and musicianship of the students in the Mira Costa Bands and the amazing support of our parent boosters, community partners, and site and district administrators.  On a ratings scale from Poor to Fair to Good to Excellent and finally, Superior, it is never a given to receive a Superior, let alone Unanimous Superior AND a Superior in Sightreading!  Our students have achieved a phenomenal result and brought great joy to the audiences and adjudicators at the Santiago High School SCSBOA Festival!  Mark your calendars now to hear these groups in their final concert of the year: The Pops Concert on June 1st in the Mira Costa Auditorium at 7PM!  It is sure to be an amazing treat with all these Band firing on all cylinders!
