This weekend at the largest Scholastic Jazz Festival in the Southern California the Mira Costa Jazz Bands put on a pair of stunning performances that wowed judges and audiences alike!
Performing in the CAA District Office Board Room our Jazz II received a fantastic clinic from one of their adjudicators, jazz professional Jim Honeyman. Later that evening at the Awards Concert featuring first-call player and jazz great Wayne Bergeron, our Jazz II was honored with their 1st place in 8 years in the Novice Grey division!
Jazz 1 performed on the main stage in the Coil Performing Arts Center and received a standing ovation from the crowd! Their clinician Dr. Jeff Hellmer was incredibly impressed by the talents and work ethic of the band and gave an awesome tutorial on fragmental jazz language. At the end of the evening and amidst the most competitive division we have ever experienced, we were incredibly proud to hear that Jazz 1 was in the top 2 at this monster festival with over 100 performing ensembles from all over Southern California!
