Good Afternoon Marching Band and Colorguard Families!
We are excited to announce a new opportunity that was unveiled to the world at large just a week and a half ago: WBA SoFi! The Western Bands Association was able to book SoFi Stadium for the new stadium’s first ever Marching Band competition next month!
Needless to say, this opportunity is the Marching Band equivalent of having the opportunity to perform in Walt Disney Concert Hall or Carnegie Hall and I am excited to announce that the Staff and the Booster Club are working on a plan to give our students the opportunity to perform alongside the 22 other premiere ensembles that are signed up, coming from as far away as Nevada for an epic show on October 23rd! You can see the full lineup here: WBA SoFi
Though many of our athletic teams around campus compete regularly on weeknights, our Marching Band and Colorguard has not done so since 2017. They have not announced performance times yet, but it is likely that, just as with our other athletic teams on campus, we will need to be excused early from one or both afternoon periods to prepare and will then return home after we perform without staying for awards so that we can take care of our studies.
A weeknight performance comes with some different challenges, but this is too good of an opportunity for our students for us to pass up! What we know so far is that we will not have rehearsals that Monday night, but may need to add a short rehearsal the previous weekend to prepare and pack our equipment so that we are ready to go for Monday afternoon. We will send out updates with a more definitive plan once WBA releases the performance times and when we have heard back about field availability at Mira Costa as well, but we wanted to send out a save the date now so that you can mark your calendars. I know this is going to be an amazing, unforgettable opportunity for our students!
Hope you can join us!
