The MCHS Band Program recently kicked off our Mentorship Program. For a little background, the MCHS Band Mentorship Program was started in 2018 by band alumni parents. It has grown over the years and is run by our MCHS Band Student Leadership Mentorship Team. This year we have Hannah Huang as our mentorship chair and Nate Sagadevan & Loli Prelle as our two coordinators. This team of 3 students has already been working hard. They created the attached video to recruit fellow high school students, and we now have 49 MCHS Band Students signed up to volunteer their time and music skill set! Mara McPhee, an amazing band parent, has volunteered to help with the program as our Parent Mentorship Chair.
This program will kick off in mid to late October. We will reach out to elementary band students across both Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach to offer free one-on-one music lessons with our Grammy Award-winning Mira Costa High School Band Students. I could not be more proud of Hannah, Nate, Loli, and all the MCHS Band student volunteers. I know everyone on this email understands the importance of music education. The fact that so many of our MCHS students stepped up to help other students enjoy the benefits of music education is beyond impressive.
