March 2014 – The MCHS Music Department (band, orchestra and choir) was awarded the 2014 GRAMMY® Foundation’s Signature Schools Gold Award this month. They were selected as one of the top 3 U.S. public school music departments in the country and will be awarded a $5,000 monetary grant to benefit the music program. The GRAMMY® Foundation’s Signature Schools program recognizes top U.S. public high schools that are making an outstanding commitment to music education during an academic school year.
Of the 20,000 applications for the 2014 GRAMMY® Signature Schools award, 123 schools nationwide were selected as GRAMMY Signature Schools semifinalists and 12 GRAMMY® Signature Schools were awarded. The top three schools are designated Gold recipients.
We will hold a MCHS Music Department Concert in June where you will have the opportunity to enjoy performances by our award winning ensembles and have front row seats to see the GRAMMY® Foundation award our Music Department with the GRAMMY® Gold Award and Grant.
