Featured in front of crowds numbering in the thousands at the nationally recognized Manhattan Beach Holiday Fireworks, and the Summer Concerts in the Park series. Performing a large range of styles from swing and latin to funk and rock, the band offers students the opportunity to perform the quintessentially American art form of Jazz as part of a curricular course. The Big Band has been recognized with top awards at national, regional and local festivals for great performances of collegiate and professional repertoire and in 2017 traveled to Boston and was awarded 2nd place in the country’s largest and oldest high school jazz festival, Berklee High School Jazz Festival.
Jazz 2
Open to all Costa students, Jazz 2 is an after-school opportunity that takes place during the spring semester. Jazz 2 can be taken as an elective for course credit or just for fun. This after-school class meets in the band room with Mr. Carlson twice a week and students learn all about the fundamentals of Jazz Music.
